Na Bole Tum - New Beginnings!!!

It has been long since my last article on Na Bole Tum. Nonetheless, I was able to make time to watch the episodes and have to confess that there was many a time as a viewer I got restless, seeing the new twists and turns that the makers get immense pleasure introducing to the existing story. Today, I want to leave behind all the unpleasant occurrences that had happened in the recent past and talk about Mohan and Megha Bhatnagar in their new found relationship.

“Aaj se aap dono pati patni huye.”  These words brought a smile to my lips even as a tear trickled down my face. In this instant, realisation dawned on me, that Mrs. Vyas aur Mohan ki dilchasp kahani indeed has come a long way. The pre-cap further took me down memory lane and the flashes from the past only made me more nostalgic.

MohanI still remember the initial teasers of the show that broadly gave us an idea about the forth coming storyline. I still remember the instance when Megha had addressed Mohan as ‘manhoos.’ Least did she know then that he would eventually become her “mann-ka-manoos.”  We knew that Mrs. Vyas, a widow with two children will eventually fall in love with a carefree and clumsy crime reporter, Mohan Bhatnagar. The makers were also focusing on the fact that a woman, despite falling prey to ill fate can once again embrace life with open arms. 27th July, 2012 saw the culmination of the initial plot as Mohan and Megha "finally" tied the knot.

“Love is everything it’s cracked up to be. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for” ~ Erica Jong

We all wish to be “the” most important person in the life of the one we love, but it seldom happens. We often take our partners for granted and the feeling of being wanted in one’s relationship finally takes a back seat. I for one would love to see my man fight the world to make me happy. Therefore, every time I see Mohan Bhatnagar’s undying love for Megha, I can’t stop envying her. In today’s complex world, where relationships and emotions look superficial and shallow, it’s heart-warming to see a man like Mohan, who despite his unconventional ways, manages to pursue his love and win her over. Had it not been for Mohan’s persistence, Megha would have never broken the social barriers and listen to her heart, finally giving way to their unusual love story.

Mohan riddhimaBut again, love at times makes us do things which are very unlike us. Mohan may be guilty of concealing the truth about Riddhima from Megha, but his intentions are never wrong and he means no harm. His every decision is driven by his love for Megha, the one person he dreads to live without. Mohan may be married to Riddhima, but his heart yearns for Megha. So even though the world may consider his marriage with Megha to be illegal, it’s the sole truth of his life. As Ellen Key has rightly mentioned “Love is moral even without legal marriage, but marriage is immoral without love.”

As a woman I do empathise with Riddhima, but as an individual I also cannot ignore Mohan’s state of mind. There is no denying the fact that Megha means the world to him, and every time he faced rejection from her, he felt shattered. His love remained unrequited for a very long time and when Megha ultimately agreed to marry him, his happiness knew no bounds. He became like a little child whose greatest fantasy was coming true and he under no circumstances was ready to part with it. Sometimes life brings us to a crossroad, where choosing between right and wrong is no less than walking on a two edged sword and a person is left with very little choice.

megha mohanOften it’s the circumstances that decide an individual’s action rather than the individual himself. We may consider Mohan to be unethical and feel that he has laid the foundation of his new life on a lie, but as and when the truth gets revealed, its Megha who has to decide if she considers Mohan to be guilty or not.

“At last my love has come along. My lonely days are over and life is like a song” ~ Etta James

Marriage is not a destination but a journey. So while Mohan and Megha embark their life’s new journey as Mr. and Mrs. Bhatnagar, we hope the upcoming hurdles will only strengthen their bond further. Sometimes the challenges become necessary to reinvent oneself and explore one’s relationship. Agar “HUM” saath ho toh “SAFAR” aasan ho jata hai. So lets hope their love and trust for each other will withstand every test of time.

As a viewer I am now eagerly looking forward to seeing Mr. and Mrs. Bhatnagar ki dilchasp love story.

Hi Swati, it's indeed been a long time since you penned your thoughts onNBT. I had stopped watching the serial almost 2 months back so as to not start hating my fav. characters on T.V (in recent times at least) & feel happy & satisfied now that my decision was right. Was anyway getting an update from the other NBT fan at home and was ofcourse in touch with rangmunch to read your articles on NBT which didnt come by for a long time (perfectly understandable! ) . Happened to see your article today & was initially thrilled that probably you have some good news on NBT front, but then it wasn't meant to be. Hats off to you for being hopelessly hopeful! But then, I agree with most of the other viewers who have posted their comments expressing their disappointment on NBT. I have nothing else to say except "totally illogical & irreversible damage done to a masterpiece". No kind of enlightenment to the story writer can save NBT now. Feel so cheated that I wasted 100 odd episodes worth of time on NBT. But if I look at it in a positive way, those initial episodes were worth every second of classic entertainment & feel happy about the fact that there are a handful of story writers & directors who can think out of the box & my hope now is not for a refined NBT but a revolution to unwind the damage done to Indian television over the past decade. We need some brave heart to break the mould. With this I wind up my last & long comment on NBT & best wishes to the actors of NBT!

Your optimism is infectious and so i looked forward to yesterday's episode after reading this, but i have to say i was disappointed.
This is the only hindi soap that i watch, and its charm lay in the fact that it was about small town folk with honourable aspirations. They took their little pleasures seriously and took adversity on the chin. The villains were fear and deceit and the heroes were honesty and love and courage. While individuals were striving to realize their potential, they also considered the community to be important. It was also very simple - in settings, in clothes, in accessories at the same time it was rich, gilded by noble deeds, and unconditional love. All of this added up to an uplifting viewing experience.

And all of this was rendered with subtlety, dignity and restraint and the dialogues and music carried that spirit. I fear that they are now veering towards melodrama and gimmicks, big highs and deep lows, and may soon become like everything else on tv.

In one episode, sitting on his bike Mohan said to Megha ''kya hum do mature logon ki tarah baat nahin kar sakte'' I do hope that going forward the dilchasp kahani affirms that spirit, it could then continue to be a treat on indian television.

Swati .. I love your positive outlook and your STICKING to it .. HATS OFF TO YOU. :D However we might TRY and justify what the CVs have done to Mohan .. the truth is in front of our faces .. Mohan committed Bigamy .. no IFS, ENDS OR BUTS about it .. he MIGHT have been carried away because of him being drunk, him being depressed, him being a kind hearted guy and might have thought that he is helping a dying man with his last wish ... BUT .. he CONCEALED the truth from Megha .. Him being a 'respectable Journalist' should KNOW the i implications of his action ..

These CVs have done GRAVE INJUSTICE to his character .. IF THEY WOULD HAVE TRIED, they could have found 10 million ways to garner TRPs WITHOUT BUTCHERING their lead .. we have examples of that from various scenarios written by many talented writers on FB and on IF ... What they have done to such a beautiful, realistic, simple, beautiful story is UNPARDONABLE and seeing the way things are taking shape in today's episode, I have NO HOPE of NBT EVER being brought back to its ORIGINAL GLORY.

BTW .. Loved the Bday segment with AKS .. just wondering, did you ask or let them know .. MM, I mean, how people actually feel about how the story is going. Their bitterness, hurt and anger??? Are they aware of it ????

Oh... Swati I know you are die hard optimist. I won't be wrong if I say your positive posts really help us in maintaining our sanity otherwise this Ridz track was enough to make us pull our hair.

We all know that the show has been badly butchered for TRPs, but even that could have been done in graceful manner. The way they have been handling the show for the past 1 1/2 month, makes us feel disconnected, I feel I am watching some crappy Ekta show. To top it all the pathetic dialouges leave a very bad taste, for example Mohan while taking Pheras says " Pata nahi main Shaadi ke saare vaade nibha paunga ya nahi, magar Pyar ke vaade zaroor nihbaunga" what kind of crap is this? and no need to even talk about the direction, the scence when Megha confesses her love to Mohan and he is shocked was well directed, but the very next minute when Mohan goes back to his house and speaks to Guru was the worst part, he behaves as if Meghas love and confession doesnt matter, he is a married man and his wife is his biggest responsibility...........can there be such a huge disconnect in one single episode.

The NBT team should atleast maintain some consistancy, if not logic in their writing.
