“Aaj se aap dono pati patni huye.” These words brought a smile to my lips even as a tear trickled down my face. In this instant, realisation dawned on me, that Mrs. Vyas aur Mohan ki dilchasp kahani indeed has come a long way. The pre-cap further took me down memory lane and the flashes from the past only made me more nostalgic.
I still remember the initial teasers of the show that broadly gave us an idea about the forth coming storyline. I still remember the instance when Megha had addressed Mohan as ‘manhoos.’ Least did she know then that he would eventually become her “mann-ka-manoos.” We knew that Mrs. Vyas, a widow with two children will eventually fall in love with a carefree and clumsy crime reporter, Mohan Bhatnagar. The makers were also focusing on the fact that a woman, despite falling prey to ill fate can once again embrace life with open arms. 27th July, 2012 saw the culmination of the initial plot as Mohan and Megha "finally" tied the knot.
“Love is everything it’s cracked up to be. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for” ~ Erica Jong
We all wish to be “the” most important person in the life of the one we love, but it seldom happens. We often take our partners for granted and the feeling of being wanted in one’s relationship finally takes a back seat. I for one would love to see my man fight the world to make me happy. Therefore, every time I see Mohan Bhatnagar’s undying love for Megha, I can’t stop envying her. In today’s complex world, where relationships and emotions look superficial and shallow, it’s heart-warming to see a man like Mohan, who despite his unconventional ways, manages to pursue his love and win her over. Had it not been for Mohan’s persistence, Megha would have never broken the social barriers and listen to her heart, finally giving way to their unusual love story.
But again, love at times makes us do things which are very unlike us. Mohan may be guilty of concealing the truth about Riddhima from Megha, but his intentions are never wrong and he means no harm. His every decision is driven by his love for Megha, the one person he dreads to live without. Mohan may be married to Riddhima, but his heart yearns for Megha. So even though the world may consider his marriage with Megha to be illegal, it’s the sole truth of his life. As Ellen Key has rightly mentioned “Love is moral even without legal marriage, but marriage is immoral without love.”
As a woman I do empathise with Riddhima, but as an individual I also cannot ignore Mohan’s state of mind. There is no denying the fact that Megha means the world to him, and every time he faced rejection from her, he felt shattered. His love remained unrequited for a very long time and when Megha ultimately agreed to marry him, his happiness knew no bounds. He became like a little child whose greatest fantasy was coming true and he under no circumstances was ready to part with it. Sometimes life brings us to a crossroad, where choosing between right and wrong is no less than walking on a two edged sword and a person is left with very little choice.
Often it’s the circumstances that decide an individual’s action rather than the individual himself. We may consider Mohan to be unethical and feel that he has laid the foundation of his new life on a lie, but as and when the truth gets revealed, its Megha who has to decide if she considers Mohan to be guilty or not.
“At last my love has come along. My lonely days are over and life is like a song” ~ Etta James
Marriage is not a destination but a journey. So while Mohan and Megha embark their life’s new journey as Mr. and Mrs. Bhatnagar, we hope the upcoming hurdles will only strengthen their bond further. Sometimes the challenges become necessary to reinvent oneself and explore one’s relationship. Agar “HUM” saath ho toh “SAFAR” aasan ho jata hai. So lets hope their love and trust for each other will withstand every test of time.
As a viewer I am now eagerly looking forward to seeing Mr. and Mrs. Bhatnagar ki dilchasp love story.
