Unnecessary Twists In Storyline Results In Decline In Viewership

Why is it that when a show starts, it usually is fresh and interesting but then after few months  the story line starts getting sloppy, inconsistent and many times distorted? Even if the concept is new and fresh after few months it becomes a drag with unnecessary twist and turns.

In order to increase the TRPs people behind the show sometimes goes for the leap – which does not work for most part, bring in new characters to create interesting story – but many times the audience do not accept the new characters, and sometimes because of these reasons the TRPs are lowered. Here is what the vierwers have to say

Anu and Pia on Saath Nibhana Saathiya

The show has been running for 3 years now and still many feel they don’t see the chemistry between Ahem and Gopi…even after 3 years Ahem still can’t stand up to his mother nor can he defend his wife. And now we have new Gopi in the show which takes away from what little it had to offer I feel like Ahem hasn’t grwn much in 3 years, his character, his expression, body language everything is the same. Gopi has not changed much either…she is still scared, nervous around Ahem and her mother-in-law. Nothing much has changed since the show has started

TeeK25 on Kya Hua Tere Vaada

People these days are only interested in TRPs and because of that many shows are getting chopped of while many are changing the concept of the show half way in. I think this show has great potential but the creators/writers need to stop dragging the track and focus on the main story. You can drag a story line for only so long before people start losing their interest.

Disha and Poo.K on Bade Achche Lagte Hai

I loved the concept of the show, how there is still hope to get married in your late 30s early 40s. And even though it was not love marriage I liked how they started their journey after marriage but what I find annoying in the show is Ram always doubting Priya. Even after the time  they have been together, she is the first person he will doubt if something wrong happens to his family, his business, his life. A different show, which ended up being just like any other shows in few months. And now they have created this leap in order to increase TRPs…not only are the viewers not happy with it but even the actors themselves are not happy with it.

 Ritu on Uttaran

Instead of dragging the show so much, bringing in all these twists and turns why not just end it. Its like killing a show in a slow painful death. This show used to be my favourite but all these twist, and leaps have killed the fun.

Umang and Sheena on Saas Bina Sasural

I used to love this show as instead of ladies, men created problems for the daughter-in-law. It was funny and interesting seeing them all adjust to one another. The simplicity of this show was its USP but now it feels like they have changed the show completely. The story line feels different, new characters are introduces which have sidelined the old characters and their stories. The show has lost its spunkiness; before it used to be about dealing with men in sasural, missing a mother, a woman in the house now I don’t even know where the story is going.

Farah on Yahan Mein Ghar Ghar Kheli

I used to be fan of the show but after a while it got boring to watch as the writers added things to the story that were irrelevant. The new characters that were brought in were unnecessary, new elements were added to make the show more spicy  but I don’t think it helped. Sometimes sticking with the old ideas and concept is the best way to make a show popular

So this is what people have to say about changing the story line, concepts, adding in new characters, dragging on the track and having a leap just for higher TRPs. Sometimes it works…brining in the new change in the show and sometimes it doesn’t but that’s the risk that the creators have to take.

Well said.Iam a big supporter of the view that shows should start with a new concept and then end up on a happy note once the story around the concept is over. This way it's always remembered as a great show. But I think business realities force makers to stretch beyond tolerable limits and lose on loyal fan base.I wish shows like NBT,PSH,PV,BALH follow the same.
