First Challenge the top 24 faced in the pressure test was to ‘put themselves on a plate’ in 75 minutes and it was easier said than done. While some contestants forgot the ingredients, others struggled to plate an entire dish on time. Through the mammoth task of putting yourself on a plate, those that shone made it despite some road blocks.
Three best dishes announced at the end of the pressure test were:
Ben’s Beef Taco and Tuna Tostada
Emma’s Five Spice Chocolate Cake with Chai Crème Anglaise
Debra’s Lime & Ricotta Syrup Cake
Emma set out to make a Chai icecream only to have it not set at the last moment. She cleverly poured the unset mixture into a bowl and served it as Crème Anglaise with a delectable chocolate cake that earned her a spot in the top 3.
Nervous as she entered the Masterchef Kitchen, Debra steeled herself to be courageous as she set about the task of putting herself on a plate. She blanked out a bit in the cookout and messed up with 2 of the 5 ingredients that goes into making the Cake resulting in it deflating when platted. She quickly turned the dish around with a clever presentation and exquisite limey taste of the dish got her a much deserved place as one of the best in the test.
Unassuming Ben stole the judge’s heart and their taste buds with his words – Beef Taco and Tuna Tostada as a reflection of who he was, where he is, and how far he wants to go – and crisp and yummy tacos. He was the clear choice for a chance at immunity in tonight’s episode of Masterchef Australia.
